Saw a beautiful giant moth today

With our weather not behaving as it should be it feels like things are out of whack these days. I enjoy my morning walks, and I walk the same place nearly daily. My dog chases shadows of birds and even trees a squirrel or two. Today I came across something I hadn’t seen before. It was a moth in the canal, and it was huge, as big as my hand. It was a light brown and it looked like it had eyes on its wings. I knelt down and scooped him out of the water. He looked like he as having trouble getting out so I gave him a hand. I don’t know if he will make it, but I realized I have never seen anything like that around here before, so of course I looked up the “meaning” of such a beautiful creature.
